The Institute of Virology and Cell Biology of the University of Lübeck (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. N. Tautz) is searching for a PhD candidate to drive a research project investigating the role played by the host cell lipid droplets in the antiviral innate immune response within the research group of Dr. Gabrielle Vieyres.
Innate immunity is the cell´s first line of defense against viral infections and culminates in the execution of a broad antiviral programme involving the induction of hundreds of antiviral factors raised in response to pathogen detection. While viruses have evolved to compartmentalize their replication cycle across different cell organelles, the innate immune response itself is tightly orchestrated in time and space and involves several subcellular organelles or compartments. The research group “Cell biology of RNA viruses” of Gabrielle Vieyres unravels the compartmentalization of viral infections and innate immune responses (https://www.vuz.uni-luebeck.de/research/cell-biology/research-group-vieyres/).
The successful candidate will work on a project funded by the German Research Foundation (https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/531424650) that aims to unravel the role played by the lipid droplet organelle in exerting and regulating the antiviral innate immune response. To answer this question, the student will have access to a panel of experimental methods, ranging from molecular and cellular biology, to biochemistry, virology and high-resolution fluorescence microscopy techniques.
Classification will be in accordance with the automatic pay scale if the requirements of the pay scale are met up to the pay group listed above. A final job evaluation remains reserved.
